What is An Eating Disorder?
Eating disorders are mental disorders that are defined as
unnatural eating habits that affect the person in a negative way.
These disorders range greatly in effect from anorexia nervosa which
is extreme low body weight because of lack of nourishment, to pica
where the patient consumes items that are not considered food, to
rumination disorder where the patient is unable to keep the food
stomached and usually regurgitates it soon after consumption.
Eating disorders sometimes link into other disorders such as
depression and anxiety.
The symptoms of eating disorders are as variable as the types of
disorders that occur. Below are some of the possible symptoms.
- Sensitivity to cold
- Kidney failure
- Tooth loss, cavities
